About Mute Math

MuteMath started as a long distance collaboration between Paul Meany (Co-Front man of the band Earthsuit) and Darren King (one of Earthsuit’s most fervent devotees). While travelling the globe throughout 2001, Paul would intermittently receive instrumental demo CD’s from this programmer/drummer kid in Springfield, Missouri nmed Darren King. Fairly impressed, Paul contacted Darren and asked if he could mess with the demos a bit, adding some song ideas of his won. Darren obliged and the two would set in motion a sort of songwriting ping-pong match that would carry on for several months. A few rounds of this led to talks of a possible side project; however, those plans were abruptly put to an end when Earthsuit became in need of a drummer by 2002.

It seemed perfect to let Darren audition for the spot since there was already a creative bond. The tryouts were held, and Darren prevailed, earning himself his dream job at the time. But only a few months later Earthsuit’s future was looking dim upon being dropped from their label and having more band members ready to call it quits, so the official decision was made to disband.

When the dust settled by the end of the year, it seemed like the right time to materialize the side project Paul and Darren had talked about just over a year before. With the recruiting of guitarist Greg Hill, the guys would work feverishly in their New Orleans home studio to demo a whole new collection of songs.

After playing only a handful of local shows, the demo had found its way to famed producer Tedd T. who was on the brink of starting his own Warner Brothers imprint, Teleprompt Records. By the end of 2003, MuteMath would be signed on as the new label’s debut artist. With most of this year scheduled for the studio, MuteMath will serve up an EP this fall entitled RESET as an appetizer for the full length due out in the spring.
