About Vaquero
It was 1993 in Monterrey – mexican cradle of the influential alt-music movement that gave birth to household names as Kinky, Control Machete and Plastilina Mosh- when Gerardo Garza and Maurizio Terracina, 13 year-olds teenagers unpretentiously decided they wanted to follow on the footsteps of some of their international music idols and form their own band.
For 3 years, these two adventurous teenagers began playing tirelessly with their buddies under the name of Zurdok Movimento. In 1995 they won the Battle of the Bands in Mexico City out of 500 groups, and were offered a recording contract, a then unprecedented situation for a band from Monterrey.
This band lasted for 6 unpredictable years, during which the group went from Zurdok Movimento to just Zurdok and from sextet to quintet
to quartet. But one thing was predictable and obvious, the talent behind Chetes and Maurizio, which was fortunately noticed by respectable music critics and fans alike.
The band dissapeared, but the wunderpair were not to give up. At the moment, they did everything themselves, from playing all the instruments to recording and mixing and programming. Then they invited Fernando Mijares and Rodrigo Guardiola to join them on guitar and drum duties respectively, and decided to name this project VAQUERO.
